TMJ & TMD Treatment
If you are suffering from excessive pain in the jaw and ear area, have frequent headaches or experience popping sounds in the jaw occasionally resulting in your jaw locking or moving out of place, you may have TMJ/TMD. If any of these symptoms describe your current situation, make an appointment with Arbor Dental immediately so we can assess your situation and provide you with the proper dental treatment.
TMJ (or the temporomandibular joint) is the joint connecting the jaw to the temporal bones of the skull. TMD (or temporomandibular joint disorder) commonly occurs when there are problems with the muscles in the face or jaw. The symptoms of TMD can be present for many other problems, which makes a diagnosis particularly difficult. However, your dentist can complete a comprehensive exam and provide the best treatment plan for your needs.
The most popular ways to treat TMD is by eating soft foods that do not require you to open your mouth wide to eat or result in a lot of focused chewing. Cutting your food into very tiny pieces or choosing foods that require little to no chewing allows your jaws and facial muscles to rest and potentially repair on their own. At Arbor Dental, we have many different treatment plans to offer from exercises to medicine that help facilitate a full recovery of your jaw muscles suffering from TMD.
Jaw Pain, Facial Pain Relief!
Finding relief from pain in the jaw area or other areas of the face is our priority when treating cases of TMD. Other ways to find comfort during treatment is to avoid activities that require constant, extreme jaw movements such as singing or yelling and keep chewing to a minimum. In the event you have to yawn, keep your fist under your chin to prevent your jaws from over-extending. Together, treating TMD has never been easier and your road to relief is right around the corner. Contact our office to make an appointment so we can help you find that relief as quickly as possible.
